Popularly known as "Roofies", Flunitrazepam was first developed in Europe in 1963 for sleep medication. After people became aware of its heavy, often dangerous sedative effects they began developing other forms of sleep medication which did not have as heavy of a toll on the brain as Rohypnol did. Since then, roofies have been used as a date rape drug because of its heavy sedative effects. Once taken, the user will also not be able to remember what happened the night they take the drug.  I consider this quote significant to the story because of Rohypnol's its connection to the rape culture.
