"Everyone has secrets, it's just a matter of finding out what they are" (53)
It doesn't take long to realize that Mikael is a bit of a lady's man. Here is a little thing I put together to show you all of the women in Mikael's life throughout the book. After looking at it, you will be able to see that he has quite the variety.
Erika Berger:
Erika is Mikael's long time love interest. They have been together since college, and even though they both decided to see other people, they couldn't stay away. Erika has an open relationship with Mikael and her husband, and both know about each other. This is not very common, but seems to work well until Mikael meets Lisbeth. Towards the end of the novel, you see Erika becoming jealous of Lisbeth, and Lisbeth of Erika. Will this love last?

Cecilia Vanger:
Cecilia Vanger was a bit of an unexpected relationship for Mikael and the readers of this novel. Cecilia needs a little adventure in her life, and a little spontaneity. Mikael comes into her life at the perfect time. But, as you read, you see that she suddenly wants nothing to do with Mikael. Did she really fall for him like she says? Or did she want to get as far away from the Harriet investigation as possible?

Lisbeth Salander:
Anddddd Lisbeth. The most complex character that I have ever encountered. Even at the end of the novel, I still can't seem to understand her. At first, her relationship with Mikael is strictly professional. But, she soon starts to feel things for Mikael that she doesn't understand, and has never felt before. Out of these three women, this relationship is different. Yes, they are sexually involved like he is with the other women, but he also respects her and thinks about her feelings, as she does of him. Lisbeth is such a complex person, and it is definitely going to take more than one novel to truly understand why she is the way she is today. I am very interested to see where this relationship goes.
