CHAPTER 12: A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE
"Salander was not like any normal person" (248)
Lisbeth Salander, the second of two main characters in the novel, is one strange girl. However, her problems are not that far from a regular woman's. She is constantly harassed by the male gender, and up to this point in the novel, you are aware that Salander has been through a horrible past. Following her rape from her Guardian, she attempts to figure out how to seek revenge on him. Her obstacles prevent a lot of practical possibilities. For one, she is declared unfit to take care of herself, so any word she says against her guardian will be overrun by his. She is very against reporting to the police, because she doesn't get along with them at all and they have been trouble with her in the past. She ends up having to plot her revenge on her own. If Lisbeth wasn't a woman, would she be faced with the same obstacles?
