"The plant was native to the Australian bush and uplands, where it was to found among tussocks of grass. There it was called Desert Snow."(Pg. 4)
Every year since Harriet has been gone Henrik receives a flower. This time it is a flower called Leptospermum Rubinette otherwise known as the Desert Snow. Henrik and Gustaf have so much information that is wrong and so little that is correct that they completely look over the flowers and don't believe that they have any significance in where Harriet could be. The flowers act as a symbol that Harriet is still alive and well but Henrik is sure that she is dead and that the flowers are being sent by her killer. The Desert Snow flower acts as a symbolic clue rather than a practical clue due to the fact that Henrik still believes she is dead and doesn't think there is any way she is alive.
