The Vanger Family Tree 1966
(pages 182-201)
If you are anything like me, it's hard to keep track of all of the Vangers without putting a face to a name! So here is a nice little family tree of important family members with pictures to help you remember who everyone is!
Richard Vanger (1907-1940)
The Father of Gottfried and grandfather of Harriet Vanger. He was one of Fredrik and Ulrika's 5 sons. He died before the disappearance of Harriet. |
Harald Vanger (1911-Present)
Son of Fredrick and Ulrika Vanger. Harald is Henrik's grumpy brother, He is Cecelia and Anita's Father. He lives alone as he is a widower and has been since 1992. Mikael has yet to talk to him. |
Henrik Vanger (1920-Present)
Son of Fredrick and Ulrika Vanger. He was the CEO of the Vanger Corporation until he handed over the position to Martin Vanger who was more willing and able to handle the company. Henrik is obsesed with Harriet's dissaperence (as we are all aware) and is also a main character. He owns most of Hedby Island and his hunt for Harriet's killer is almost through. |
Gottfried Vanger (1927-1965)
Father of Martin and Harriet Vanger and son of Richard Vanger. He was a drunk, an evil man, and not a responsible father in the slightest. His death was one year before Harriet's disappearance and Mikael thinks that his death has something to do with the disappearance. |
Isabella Vanger (1928-Present)
Married to Gottfried Vanger, also quite the partier and a negligent mother. She is a nasty woman whom no one really wants to come into contact with, however she is quite the gossip and knows everything that is going on on Hedby Island. She used to be gorgeous and fun but now is an old sour woman. She is rude to Mikael and doesn't want him snooping around in her families business. |
Cecelia Vanger (1946-Present)
Daughter of Harald and Ingrid Vanger, she is one of the remaining family members who lives on Hedby Island and soon starts to develop an interesting relationship with Mikael Bloomkvist. |
Anita Vanger (1948-Present)
Daughter of Harald and Ingrid Vanger and sister to Cecelia Vanger. We don't know much about Anita as of right now but she comes into play towards the end of the novel so keep your eye out for her name! |
Martin Vanger (1948-Present)
Martin is the Son of Gottfried and Isabella, and is the present CEO of the Vanger Cooperation. He was probably abused as a child along with his sister Harriet but he isn't completely free from guilt. He stays out of the way, but is definitely friendly towards Mikael and his work. Martin is a hardworking man with a large modern house-that he built himself-on Hedby Island. He seems a little fed up, along with the rest of the family, with Henrik's obsession with Harriet's disappearance. He thinks it is a fruitless effort and Mikael is wasting his time. He does miss his sister, however it has been 40 years and thinks it is time to put the matter to rest. |
Harriet Vanger (1950-?)
Ahh, the mysterious Harriet. The daughter of Isabella and Gottfried, she was neglected and maybe even abused by her alcoholic parents. They did not love her so she sought comfort in her great uncle Henrik. She was the supposed prodigy for the Vanger Cooperation, as Henrik was keeping an eye on her and preping her to become the next CEO. Henrik believes her to be dead and is using his last efforts to find out who killed her before he, himself dies. She was 16 when she went missing and has been causing heartache in Henrik since that day in the summer of 1966. |
What do you think so far? Is Harriet actually dead? If so, who killed her? Was it someone on the island that day in the summer of 1966 who did the deed? Or did she simply run away and never look back?
